Sparky’s 2005 NASCAR Challenge Rules

General Object

To promote interest in NASCAR and have some fun!

Costs and Prizes

The cost will be $1.00 for each race that a driver earns points for the NEXTEL Cup. There are currently 36 races scheduled, so the most you will lose is $36.00.
The challenge has grown! To help me from having to collect from everyone at the end of the season, which is also the busy holiday season. I am now asking all of you to pay your entry fee of $36.00 by the 5th race, which for 2005 is Sunday, April 3.

Challenge Payouts will be computed as follows:

1 to 10 teams

        55% to 1^stplace.
        35% to 2^ndplace.
        10% to 3^rdplace.

11 to 24 teams

        30% to 1^stplace.
        20% to 2^ndplace.
        14% to 3^rdplace.
        10% to 4^thplace.
          8% to 5^thplace.
          7% to 6^thplace.
          6% to 7^thplace.
          5% to 8^thplace.

25 to 40 Teams.

        28% to 1^stplace.
        17% to 2^ndplace.
        12% to 3^rdplace.
        10% to 4^thplace.
          8% to 5^thplace.
          7% to 6^thplace.
          6% to 7^thplace.
          5% to 8^thplace.
          4% to 9^thplace.
          3% to 10^thplace.

41 to 64 Teams.

        20% to 1^stplace.
        14% to 2^ndplace.
        12% to 3^rdplace.
        10% to 4^thplace.
          9% to 5^thplace.
          8% to 6^thplace.
          7% to 7^thplace.
          6% to 8^thplace.
          5% to 9^thplace.
          4% to 10^thplace.
          3% to 11^thplace.
          2% to 12^thplace.

65+ Teams.

        18% to 1^stplace.
        13% to 2^ndplace.
        11% to 3^rdplace.
        10% to 4^thplace.
          9% to 5^thplace.
          8% to 6^thplace.
          7% to 7^thplace.
          6% to 8^thplace.
          5% to 9^thplace.
          4% to 10^thplace.
          3% to 11^thplace.
          2.5% to 12^thplace.
          2% to 13^thplace.
          1.5% to 14^thplace.

"Chase for a Refund"

It is Sparky's hope to keep those out of the hunt for main prizes still interested in the challenge.   This is how it will work. After the 26th race results have been posted, those who elect to participate in the "Chase for a Refund" will go to zero points and use what drivers they have left to compete for a refund.   You must make your decision to go for the "Chase for a Refund" before the green flag waves on the 27th race!

15 to 30 teams

One $36 refund will be awarded.

31 to 55 Teams

Two $36 refunds will be awarded.

55+ Teams

Three $36 refunds will be awarded.

All ties split the money awarded for the challenge. Should 2 tie for 1st then both split the money available. If the payout calls for 1st and 2nd, then the payouts would be combined and split between.
Examples:

8 Team Challenge pays:

1st - $158.40
2nd - $100.80
3rd - $28.80

If there is a tie for 1st, 1st & 2nd $ are combined to pay each $129.60, and the 3rd place team receives $28.80

A three way tie for 1st would combine all $ and each would receive $96.00.

How To Play

Simple: Each race you choose a driver.

But there is a catch. You may only use a driver once for the entire challenge (NASCAR season).

You must have your driver turned in to Sparky before the GREEN flag is waved for the race. There will be no exceptions to this rule as I must be fair to all participants! To guarantee that they are received, get them in early! If you know your going to be out of town or on vacation, just pick one ahead of time. You can always change it before the GREEN flag if you so desire.

Each race you earn the total points that your chosen driver earns for that race.

The winner of the challenge will be determined by the total number of points accumulated during the challenge (NASCAR season).

Point Scoring

Each owner accumulates points earned by his/her driver for each race based upon the Official NASCAR Point System outlined below:

5 additional bonus points are awarded to each driver who leads a lap.

5 additional bonus points go to the driver who leads the most laps.

5 additional bonus points are awarded to driver who wins the race.

Deadline:

Each owner must have their driver chosen and registered before the start of each race.

Race Results

I will make every effort to have race results available as soon as the results are posted official on the NASCAR web page: . I will give sufficient notice if I am going to be late with the results.

ERRORS: Occasionally an error may be made. If you feel you have located an error, notify the race director immediately. You have until the next race to detect the error and bring it to my attention.
