Sparky’s 2010 NASCAR Challenge Rules

Monday, September 06, 2010 Welcome, Unregistered Guest Register   Login

2010 Rule changes are prefixed with:

General Object

To promote interest in NASCAR and hopefully have some fun!

How To Play

Simple: Each race you choose a driver.

But there is a catch. You may only use a driver once for the entire challenge (NASCAR season).

You must have your driver turned in to Sparky shortly before the Green Flag is waved for the race.  There will be no exceptions to this rule as I must be fair to all participants!  To guarantee that they are  received, get them in early!  If you know your going to be out of town or on vacation, just pick one ahead of time.  You can always change it shortly before the Green Flag if you so desire.

Each race you earn the total points that your chosen driver earns for that race.

The winner of the challenge will be determined by the total number of points accumulated during the challenge (NASCAR season).

Costs

The cost will be $1.00 for each race that a driver earns points for the Sprint Cup. There are currently 36 races scheduled, so the most you will lose is $36.00

Important, For 2010, Entry fees must be received by Saturday, February 27.

How to tell Sparky what driver you want for the race

The Preferred method is entering your driver choice on the web site.

However if you do not have access to a computer you may phone it in:

Home phone 515-965-0293 (If your out of town 1-800-247-6803 ext 2468)

Deadline for submitting your driver choice:

Important! You must have your driver posted shortly before the start (Green Flag) of each race.

Due to inconsistencies in the coverage between the different networks (FOX, Speed, TNT, ESPN), a slight change has been made to the web page driver picks.  Starting with the 2010 challenge, the driver picks will now lock out 25 minutes after the posted TV start time.   If you are one of the few who make your pick close to the green flag each week, please pay close attention to the new countdown clock near  the driver pick link.  This way you know exactly how much time you have left to get your pick submitted.

Please don’t miss a pick, be sure to read the chase for a refund section below!

Point Scoring

5 additional bonus points are awarded to each driver who leads a lap.

5 additional bonus points go to the driver who leads the most laps.

10 additional bonus points are awarded to driver who wins the race.

Race Results

After each race, I will usually post the results from the "Unofficial Results".   Please keep this in mind if you are checking things out.

Once NASCAR has posted the "Official Results" (Usually sometime Monday) I will re-verify the challenge results.

Chase for a Refund

It is Sparky’s hope to keep those out of the hunt for main prizes still interested in the challenge.

After the 26th race results have been posted, those who elect to participate in the "Chase for a Refund" will go to zero points and use what drivers they have left to compete for a refund.

Important note, for all missed driver picks a penalty will be imposed where the top unused driver(s) in the standings after the 26th race will be removed from your available drivers.   So as an example, if you miss three weeks in the first 26 races, you will loose your top three unused drivers based off the NASCAR driver standings as of the start of the 27th race.

You must make your decision to go for the "Chase for a Refund" before the green flag waves on the 27th race!

Payouts

Payouts are a computed percent with the intent to pay to around 25% of the participants.

You are assured all funds received are paid out in full.

All ties split the money awarded for the challenge. Should 2 tie for 1st then both split the money available.  If the payout calls for 1st and 2nd, then the payouts would be combined and split between.

So as an example:

  • A 25 Team Challenge will pay out the following:
  • 1st - $362.88
    2nd - $198.72
    3rd - $103.68
    4th - $86.40
    5th - $60.48
    6th - $51.84
    "Chase for a Refund" - $36.00

If there is a tie for 1st, Then both 1st and 2nd place money is combined to pay each $280.08.

A three way tie for 1st would combine 1st and 2nd and 3rd place money and each would receive $221.76.
